Victor Snieckus was a giant in the Chemistry world, most recently at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. He was the prime mover behind Balticum Organicum Syntheticum in 1998 when in a meeting with John Duncia and Jaan Pesti, he said ‘let’s start a conference.’ BOS2000 came into being two years later. To celebrate his legacy and the huge impact he left on us, the Chemistry Department of Queen’s University wishes to establish the Victor Snieckus Memorial Fund. This fund will support research and teaching in Organic Chemistry at Queen’s, with a focus on facilitating the work of graduate students and other young scholars. A fitting tribute to someone with a deep enthusiasm for discovery while making science accessible for so many.

We all miss Victor. His infectious smile, his unflagging enthusiasm and his full head of hair in spite of his age! He would be proud to know that this fund was created to further young scientists interested in chemistry.
