Olafs Daugulis
New Methods for Carbon-Hydrogen Bond Functionalization
Is an American chemist, currently the Robert A. Welch Chair of Chemistry at the University of Houston.
Born in Riga, Latvia, Daugulis graduated in 1991 with a degree in Chemical Engineering from Riga Technical University, where he remained as a Research Assistant until 1993. The University of Wisconsin, Madison, was his next educational home; he received a Ph.D. in chemistry in 1999 under Edwin Vedejs. From 2000–03, Daugulis worked as a postdoctoral associate with Maurice Brookhart at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Since 2014 he is a professor and R. A. Welch Chair in Chemistry at the University of Houston.
His research interest in Synthetic Organic and Organometallic Methodology including:
- Group 11 metal chemistry
- Application of organometallic chemistry to organic synthesis and polymer chemistry
- Development of new enantio- and diastereoselective transformations
