Junichiro Yamaguchi is a Professor of Chemistry at Waseda University, where he leads a research group focused on synthetic organic chemistry. Born in Tokyo in 1979, he received his B.Sc. and Ph.D. from the Tokyo University of Science, completing his doctorate under Prof. Yujiro Hayashi in 2007. He then conducted postdoctoral research with Prof. Phil S. Baran at The Scripps Research Institute as a JSPS Fellow. After returning to Japan, he joined Nagoya University as an Assistant Professor in 2008 (working with Professor Kenichiro Itami) and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2012. In 2016, he moved to Waseda University and became Full Professor in 2018. His research focuses on developing new methods for selective bond activation and the efficient synthesis of complex molecules. He has received several honors, including the Chemical Society of Japan Award for Distinguished Young Chemists, the MEXT Young Scientists’ Prize, the FACS Distinguished Young Chemist Award, and the Mukaiyama Award.
